On Friday 11th September, Julia Butterfly Hill met Vice-Chairman and Quality and Environment Manager Gian Marco Scavolini and Chief Executive Vittorio Renzi, who gave her a guided tour of the premises and explained the concept behind Scavolini Green Mind. This is a project undertaken by the company – a market leader in the Italian kitchen industry since 1984 – as a way of making an increasingly active contribution to training staff in modern living and business methods and promoting this new approach.
Julia Butterfly Hill is an American environmentalist who spent two years in northern California living in an ancient redwood tree, which was over fifty metres tall, in order to prevent it from being felled and to win public support in the battle against deforestation: this meant she acquired worldwide fame between 1997 and 1999.
The environmentalist showed a great deal of interest in the processes implemented by Scavolini in order to reduce its environmental impact, from the Idroleb ecological panel right through to the waste disposal methods applied and the use of renewable energy. After visiting the company premises, where she also had the opportunity to view the most representative kitchens in the current collection, Julia Hill made the following comment: 'although we may pursue it in different ways, we share the same goal: helping to make the world a place where progress and comfort coexist in perfect harmony with nature.'
